How to Learn Anything

Most people were never taught how to learn; they were taught subjects and left to guess at the method. A century of research in cognitive psychology has produced clear, replicated findings about what makes learning stick and what only feels like it does. This course teaches those findings and turns them into a working method: how to study, practise, remember, and get genuinely good at something. It is the first course on the Foval Core because every other course goes better once you have it.

What you'll learn

  • Explain why what you can do today is a poor guide to what you will remember next month, and spot the fluency illusion in your own habits
  • Apply retrieval practice, spacing, and interleaving to a real subject, with the right gaps and the right boundaries
  • Use worked examples, self-explanation, and elaboration to understand genuinely hard material
  • Design deliberate practice for a skill, with specific goals and a feedback loop, and state honestly what the evidence shows about practice and expertise
  • Build a weekly study system that fits the hours you actually have
  • Name the common learning myths and the evidence against each
